How does the work you personally do directly impact patients?

I work in manufacturing, so the patients use what we build every day. So if we do a good job it's better for the physicians and the patients.

How does knowing you're improving people's lives affect what you do?

It's why I'm in the industry. I came from another industry (prosthetics and orthotics). Nothing beats the feeling of seeing people coming into the building in a wheel chair and then being able to walk out the door. We give them a chance to live a normal life; it gives me great satisfaction.

What specific elements of your work are you particularly proud of?

I really like the fact that we work with cutting-edge manufacturing technology and are constantly improving it. We're never satisfied with the status quo.

Can you share any personal stories or interactions you've had with people who have benefited from an ev3 product you've worked on?

We had a couple company-wide events where people came in. Those reinforce why we're here doing what we're doing. Also, I wasn't aware at the time, but my grandfather actually died from a brain hemorrhage that could've possibly been prevented with technology we have and the devices we work with today. No one knew enough about what happened back then, but it's a possibility our devices could've saved him.

What are some of the great technologies you get to work with on a day-to-day basis?

We work with lasers and motion control technologies. Most of what we do is designed around very small tolerances. We worry about microns and 10,000ths of an inch.

Are you working on anything that you can talk about right now that is very encouraging to you as an employee and to the potential people it is going to help?

Just going back to the continuous improvement, to improve existing products to help everyone: the employees, shareholders and patients.

What motivates you at ev3?

The opportunities I've been given and that others have been given. ev3 recognizes hard work and rewards it.

I'm one of those people within the organization who would enthusiastically promote ev3 as an opportunity for someone I know to come and work in. What I do keeps ev3 healthy and growing and helps patients at the same time. That's my proudest part of my day.
